OUGD406 | Studio Brief 04 - Interim Crit

I presented two ideas in todays crit. Firstly the idea that I have been working on - a guide to tackling a brief. I also presented an idea I came up recently from reading back on my reflections, this being a poster or series of posters that would be put up around the studio with the purpose of encouraging students to stay after 3:30.
I found that by staying in the studio, some of the stress is lifted and brief feel far more manageable. I try to see the studio as my workspace, and my flat as a place to relax rather than my second office. This way, I am able to have guilt free relaxation within my flat, knowing that I still have time to work.

It was suggested in the crit that I could do some illustrations, as this is the style of my work. However, for this project I would like to try and not illustrate but focus on type more. This does not mean I am eliminating the possibility of using illustrations, I just don't want this to be the focus of this project.

The question arose as to what would actually encourage first years to stay in the studio and how would I achieve this. Others mentioned that they had not considered the studio work/flat relax mind set, so maybe I could focus on this.

It was suggested that my two ideas could work together, for example I could have the posters up on the wall, and postcards in a pocket underneath.

A tutor explained that my reason for foiling is good - to encourage students to be creative with materials and techniques and illustrate what they can achieve.
