I began by trying out the designs in colours suggested by the crit despite disagreeing with this feedback. Such as oranges and yellows to represent the maccabees. I did this by selecting the boy the the lines and adjusting the hue/saturation/lightness. I felt that the results were not as successful as the original version as it did not communicate my own personal experience of the sound as well, and the colours didn't appear to compliment each other as well.
I further developed my final design by changing the lines coming through and out of the ears. I continued creating lines whilst listening to the music until I felt the composition was balanced across the sleeve as well as creating a neater and smooth look. I tried a symmetrical version but this organised look did not represent the sound of the music.
My final alteration was to lower the figure slightly as the white space at the bottom of the page appeared too large. The resulting design was much more balanced across the sleeve rather than just in the illustration itself.
Below are some of the variations I created of the final design:
The yellow on this version is too harsh and does not compliment the bright pink. |
This was my favourite alteration of the design but it still fails to communicate my personal feelings about the song. |
Increased number of lines and two colours. This composition is well balanced but I personally prefer the original colours and the simpler design. |
The design did not look crisp around the edges of the figure because of pixels left from selecting the background of the scan. To resolve this I used a combination of the rubber and blur tool on photoshop to smoothen the edges to provide a more professional and refined look.
