The main target audience I am considering at the moment is children. This is because simple shapes stood out to me as something associated with children and I would like to see how I can explore playful colours. There also seems to be a gap in the market for children's picture frames just from looking round a few basic home stores so I should be able to create something original. At the moment I am most drawn to the idea of animals, particularly with an under the sea theme. After looking at some children's products online I found that animals were a popular theme:
Paperchase children's cards.
I decided to look for themes in products instead of frames as there seemed to be no children's frames on the market which I could use for inspiration.
The only difficulty with creating such images is the shape restriction. One idea I have is to draw the shape of the animal or subject and then fill this in with lots of smaller shapes. I will think about this later when I begin to experiment with the creation of the image itself.
The other theme I am considering is geometric pattern. Since the brief is fairly restricted this seems like an easier way to go. I also saw some nice geometric patterns in my market research. I think that although it is a simple idea you can achieve such a variety of patterns that it could be fun to explore.
I am going to continue my research and then I may take 2 ideas to begin designing. I will then select the design I wish to develop and finalise.
