I have decided to not include the information about Go Penguins within my booklet as I feel my booklet needs to be focussed on Superlambananas themselves.
Below is my initial breakdown of research (still to be revised for final booklet) -
Facts
-cross between Lamb and Banana.-Original designed by an Artist named Taro Chiezo.
-Original model was only 4 inches tall.
-The sculpture is 17ft tall.
-Large scale created by sculptors Andy Small, Julian Taylor, Tommy Reason and Ray Stokes.
-It weighs almost 8 tonnes.
-"The sculpture is both a comment on the dangers of genetic engineering and also heavily influenced by the history of Liverpool: historically both sheep and bananas were common cargos in the city's docks."
-The Gosuperlambananas are 2m tall.
Stats
-The original Superlambanana cost £35,000 to build.
-125 Gosuperlambanana Sculptures made for the Culture Capital Experience.
-In total the Go Superlambananas sold for a combined sum of £600,000 or approximately £7000-£8000 each.
-The highest bid on the night was £25,000, paid by the Chairman of National Museums Liverpool for 'Mandy' Mandala Superlambanana
Potential?
-30,000 Mosaic Tiles
-80 sponsors
-30 community groups
-20 schools
-110 artists
-400 litres of paint
-100 litres of varnishOpinions
-The majority of group members voted “Peel” as the favourite Lambanana.
-”It has to be the Supergrassbanana it looks so cuddly!”
-"I am simply amazed with the idea of creating superlambananas"
Words
- ALL - names of superlambananas
Photos
-Used as when appropriate. Unknown at this time.
This then leads me to consider what pages I can make from this. It seems appropriate to make a page about the original sculpture (both sizes) as this gives background information about the Go Superlambananas. Then leading on from this a page about the Go Superlambananas. Many of my stats are related to the auction, so I plan to create a page about this. I could then potentially include my opinions on a page about "The best Superlambanana" - perhaps this could include illustrations of a podium and medals to show which Superlambananas were voted the best. I feel that I can play on words by saying "These people are bananas about Lambananas" as this may appeal to a wider audience. I plan to have a spread showing all the names of Superlambananas as the names are entertaining and fun to try and pronounce.
Other ideas I had include a "Create your own Superlambanana" spread, which involves a colour in activity. This means the booklet will be child friendly. I have also considered using a single quote praising the lambananas as my first page to give the reader an idea of what to expect. Perhaps an illustration of a lambanana centred in the opposite page which balance out this spread? This is a layout I have seen in many books. Of course these are all only initial ideas, after some more research, planning and a crit, I will finalise my designs.

I created a mock-up design out of printer paper. This enabled me to visualise the size I am working with and also plan out what my pages could look like. These are only very brief initial sketches - my ideas have much development to come.
I am struggling with coming up with a name for the booklet. Perhaps no text could be on the front page but just an image - this will add an element of mystery to the booklet and may encourage people to pick it up. The aim of my book is to be a very quick guide on the basics of superlambananas- as a sort of pocket guide which can be placed in a handbag. I feel like I need to fully establish a target audience so I can work out what tone of voice I need to create my book in. I will bring this up in my critique.
This is an example of the previous idea to have a quote on one side and a centred Lambanana illustration. I quite like the simplicity and minimalism of this idea because it continues the mysterious theme but encourages the reader to find out more. It is also quick to read, meaning it is less likely to be boring, but engaging.
I plan to have this page similar to the slide in my presentation - showing the sizes between the two original Superlambananas and laying down the basic facts.
This will then lead on to the Go Superlambanana spin offs. I plan to cover the page in lambananas to illustrate their numbers.
Since the names of the lambananas are interesting, I want to include all 20. However, I am unsure at this moment how to display these. I could maybe have a full image with the names on top, or the page could be fully text. I feel that as I design and test out these, the best resolution will become clear.
Here is a quick sketch of my idea mentioned previously. On a fan page I found their opinions of the best superlambananas, so I may feature the best using an illustration of the Superlmabananas on a podium with medals.
As many will be wondering what happened to the lambananas, a page about the auction is important. Again I am unsure how I will design this page but following a grid and layout style I feel this will come to me.
I am currently unsure as to whether this page is appropriate. Since I already have my 5 spreads I have the ability to remove this from the booklet. On the spread, you can design your own superlambanana using an outline- this was suggested at the beginning of my research brief, however I had already thought of the idea. I feel that everyone wonders what superlambanana they would design so I feel it offers the reader an opportunity to give it a go. The issues I have with this is defining the target market for the booklet. Colouring in pages are typically aimed at children. The information in the rest of my booklet doesn't appear to be aimed at children. Currently, I am considering the idea that a parent would pick this booklet up an find out about the superlambananas, and it can then be given to children as a form of entertainment. For example if the family had visited for the day and needed the entertain the kids for the journey home.
I will use my crit to answer these questions and finalise my theme.
