OUGD405 | Studio Brief 04 - Introduction and initial ideas

My next task involves identifying a problem from my previous research (studio brief 02). Upon identifying this problem, I must create a product to solve this with a form of packaging alongside.
In the studio briefing, we were informed that the product can take multiple forms such as a poster, book or graffiti. As well as the packaging, which can be in the form of a website or marketing. It is whatever is appropriate to our research.
I will need to put my product into context i.e. what environment will it be found in?
Finally, I will need to photograph my product or include images/sketches from my design process and my final products.
My results will be shown in a 2 minute presentation.

I did not receive any specific feedback from my research presentation. I was simply given ideas as to where I can take this project. As my presentation involved the issue of whether people actually liked the sculpture, this was first suggested as an issue, however my presentation went on to resolve this issue by explaining that deep down everyone likes the sculpture or has grown to like it.
It was suggested that I could expand on the sculpture trail (no specifics were given).
It was also evident that not many people had heard of the sculptures from outside of the Liverpool area. Therefore, another suggestion was to make the sculptures more well known, nationwide and perhaps globally.
A final suggestion was that I could create a guide giving details of several sculpture trails, including the Lamabananas, and others such as the Berlin Bears.

Currently, I am fairly confused about this brief as I am unsure what sort of 'problems' I should be looking for. Therefore, I am using my presentation feedback as a guide to direct this project and its aims.

I have begun simply, by creating a mindmap.  I went through all of my research and identified any clear problems that I felt fit within this brief:

The main problems I identified were as follows-

-A general confusion about the meaning of the sculpture.
-Lack of Publicity outside of Liverpool (How could this be made well known nationwide/globally?).
-The sculptures were a waste of money.
-Up-keep. The sculptures currently on display in the public are wearing away/the paint is stripping.
-Lack of information about each sculpure, the reasons behind each design, designers etc.
-Vandalism- due to ugliness? Debate as to whether the public like the sculpture(s)
-What is the purpose of the Superlambanana?
-Lack of Superlambananas on display in public today- should they have been auctioned/should they have stayed?

After reading through the brief, I decided to write the points I need to consider on my mind map to keep them at the front of my mind.
This includes these questions -

1.Who needs to know (target audience)
2. What/why do they need to know?
3.How will you tell them?

I must also consider what the aim of my product/packaging is - explain, inform, instruct, educate.

I feel that by considering these points I will be able to give my project direction and I aim to continue answering these as my ideas develop.
