OUGD404 | Studio Brief 02 - Sketches and definitions

Bearing the feedback from the initial critique in mind, I began to sketch out potential layouts for my book. I am currently in the process of deciding how the contents of the book will be arranged. I have currently designed layouts for the following

-Sections for each camera setting e.g. aperture.
-Timeline style
-Section for each photoshoot e.g. forest, people.

I am unsure at this moment how I would like to organise my book but feedback from the next critique should help me decide this. Also, I feel that all the layouts I have designed are very similar, so I may take my DSLR out on a few trips and see what format best fits the photographs I have taken.
I am currently considering whether a concertina fold is an appropriate binding method as this is in a timeline style, representing my development through time - this would also allow the reader to spread the photography out.
Content wise, I am also considering reorganising the sheet we received up our photography induction as this was poorly designed and difficult to understand. This would mean I wouldn't need to generate as much content - however I would really like to create a primarily photography book.
In terms of size I am torn between a pocket notebook size, as if I was documenting my progress as I photograph, or a larger format which would display the photographs.

I began to design a grid system that was appropriate for the above layouts. I found that a 2 x 8 grid best fit the design I was going for. A column grid allows placement of photographs as well as text in a variety of styles.

As I was sketching my layouts, I analysed the brief to ensure I met the requirements. The brief states I will require a contents page and 10 double page spreads. I also felt it was appropriate to look up the definitions of the skills that I am required to demonstrate within my book. Having these up allowed me to consider how many of the skills I could fit into the publication. Below are definitions of the words I was unsure about -

DPS - Digital publishing suite, allowing my publication to be read on digital platforms e.g. iPad.
Folio Numbers - the page number
Pagination - The figures by which pages are marked to indicate their sequence.
Imposition - Filling up the printer area as much as possible in order to save money/resources.
